Here is what HotBot says about their own submission policy:
We're aware that some people create pages to maliciously "spoof" search engines - making search engines return pages that are irrelevant to the search at hand or pages that
rank higher than their content warrants. Common spoofing techniques include the senseless repetition of words, the inserting of META tags unrelated to the document's content, or the use of words that cannot be read
due to their small size or color. If HotBot recognizes any spoofing technique, it will severely penalize a page's ranking.
HotBot will index all visible page content, html comments, and meta tags but does not support frames or image maps, and it does not index alt tags.
It is a shallow spider, so you will want to submit pages for each of your subdirectories.
The factors affecting a page's ranking are the words in the title tag, keyword meta tags, frequency in the document, and document length.
HotBot uses both the Inktomi engine and the ODP directory.
- What Will HotBot Index? Meta tags, keyword frequency in text, and page titles.
- How Long Will It Take? 3 to 4 weeks.
- How Many Pages Do I Submit? Main pages.
- What Meta Tags Does HotBot Support? Title, description, and keyword.
- How Long Can I Make My Tags? Title: 115 characters, Description: 249, Keyword: Unknown.
- Does It Support Alt Tags? Yes.
- Are Searches on HotBot Case Sensitive? No.
- Is There Anything Else I Should Know? The directory is ODP-based, so it is key to have a listing at ODP.
